Professional Area Rug Cleaning in the Baltimore area

Area rugs need different chemistry and handling than wall-to-wall carpet. Eco-Dry cleans rugs of all sizes across the Baltimore area on-site in your home for routine care. Wool, Oriental, silk, and delicate pieces included. For severe staining or heavy pet urine, we may recommend a dedicated rug facility instead, because on-site cleaning does not guarantee full odor removal when contamination runs deep.

Dining-room runners, living-room Orientals, and mudroom mats all soil differently. Wool and silk require cool water and pH-balanced solutions; synthetic rugs tolerate more agitation. We clean the rug field on-site, tape off or work around fringes, and test for dye stability before wetting. Even with wool-safe methods, some rugs can still bleed, so we explain what we find before we start. We never high-heat-extract a natural-fiber rug. Fringe cleaning and repair are not part of on-site service. If we find severe pet urine or heavy staining in the foundation, we will recommend a dedicated rug washing facility rather than promise results on-site work cannot guarantee.

Our process

How we clean, step by step

Every job follows the same inspection-first approach. You know what we are doing and why before work starts.

  1. Fiber and construction assessment

We identify wool, silk, cotton, or synthetic construction, check for dye stability, note fringe and backing condition, and flag work that needs a dedicated rug facility: severe pet urine, heavy staining, or fringe cleaning and repair.

  2. Dry soil removal

Rugs hold pounds of dry grit in the foundation. Thorough dust removal happens before any water touches the fibers.

  3. Appropriate wash or extraction

Cool-water wool-safe cleaning for Orientals and Persians; adjusted methods for synthetics and indoor-outdoor rugs. We pre-test dyes, but bleeding can still happen on unstable colors even when chemistry is correct.

  4. Drying setup

We dry the rug body flat or with airflow to protect shape and prevent mildew. Fringes stay taped off or untouched during on-site cleaning.

Common issues

Problems we solve every week

Real jobs from Baltimore-area homes and businesses. If you are dealing with any of these, we have seen it before.

  • Delicate Oriental and wool rugs

We use wool-safe, cool-water methods and test for dye stability before wetting. Even with the right chemistry, some rugs can still bleed. Heat and alkaline cleaners make it worse, which is why we avoid them and tell you what we see before we start.

  • Embedded grit and dull pile

Rugs hold pounds of dry soil in the foundation that vacuuming never reaches. We remove grit first, then clean the rug field with fiber-appropriate chemistry so color and texture come back.

  • Pet accidents on area rugs

Moderate pet accidents can get enzyme treatment on-site without damaging hardwood underneath. Severe urine or heavy staining in the rug foundation is a different job. We strongly recommend a dedicated rug washing facility in those cases, because on-site cleaning does not guarantee full odor removal.

  • Large or heavy rugs

Oversized rugs in Baltimore-area homes are cleaned on-site in sections. We bring the right equipment and protect hardwood or tile underneath while the rug dries.

  • Mudroom and entry runners

High-traffic synthetic runners at front doors collect salt and grit all winter. Professional cleaning restores color and extends life.

What Baltimore-area customers are saying

  • Google
Richard did a really GREAT job cleaning our LR/DR area rugs. Also our hallway runner. I can't get over how much cleaner they look. They even feel softer. He also applied a stain protector which we will see if that helps; over time. Thank you Richard!

Rich is great! We had him come clean our whole house top to bottom and our upholstered couch! He got every single stain out of the carpets/couch and was great to work with. He is fair, kind, respectful, and we will be using him again in the future!

Local service

Serving the Baltimore area

Baltimore suburbs and surrounding communities. We do not service Baltimore City.

Hard water in parts of the Baltimore suburbs can leave mineral residue on rug fibers over time. We rinse the field thoroughly and recommend padding rotation for rugs on hardwood. Fringe discoloration or repair is a facility job, not part of on-site service. See our local city pages for scheduling in your zip code.

I inspect every rug before we wet it: fiber, dye stability, fringe condition, and any pet or stain history. On-site work is the rug body only. We protect fringes but do not clean or repair them. Routine field soil we handle at your home. Severe urine, deep staining, or fringe work goes to a facility.

Common questions

Professional Area Rug CleaningFAQs

Common questions about professional area rug cleaning.

  • How do I get a price?

Book online to see pricing for your rooms and services. Totals depend on square footage, surface type, and any add-ons you choose. We confirm everything before we start. No surprise charges.

  • Do you clean area rugs on-site?

Yes. We clean the rug body on-site in your home for routine soil, runners through oversized living-room pieces. Wool, silk, antique, and Oriental rugs get careful cool-water methods at your location: fiber assessment, dye testing, and proper drying before we leave. Even with wool-safe chemistry, some rugs can still bleed, so we explain what we find before wetting. We tape off or work around fringes but do not clean or repair them on-site. If we find severe pet urine, heavy staining in the foundation, or fringe work that needs a specialist, we will recommend a dedicated rug facility instead.

  • Do you clean or repair rug fringes on-site?

No. On-site service covers the rug body only. We tape off or work around fringes to avoid damage, but we do not clean, straighten, or repair fringes at your home. Yellowed, tangled, or damaged fringe needs a dedicated rug washing or repair facility.

  • Can you clean Oriental and wool rugs?

Yes. We use cool water and pH-balanced, wool-safe solutions for Oriental, Persian, and other natural-fiber rugs. We never high-heat-extract a wool rug. We test for dye stability before wetting, but even with the right chemistry some rugs can still bleed. We walk you through what we see before we start.

  • Is there a size limit for rugs you clean?

We handle runners through oversized living-room rugs. Very large pieces are cleaned on-site in sections. Describe dimensions when you book online so we bring the right equipment.

  • Can you remove pet stains from area rugs?

Light to moderate pet stains can often be treated on-site with enzyme cleaners and dye-safe methods. Rugs on hardwood get extra care so moisture does not damage the floor underneath. For severe urine saturation or heavy staining in the rug foundation, we strongly recommend a dedicated rug washing facility instead of on-site cleaning, because we cannot guarantee full odor removal when contamination runs deep.

  • When should a rug go to a rug facility instead of on-site cleaning?

If the rug has severe staining or heavy pet urine that has soaked into the foundation, we strongly recommend taking it to a dedicated rug washing facility. On-site cleaning can improve appearance and handle light to moderate soil, but it does not guarantee full odor removal when contamination is deep. After inspection we tell you honestly which option fits your rug.

  • How long does rug cleaning take?

Most on-site rug cleanings finish the same day. Drying time depends on fiber type, rug size, and airflow in the room — we set up fans and explain when it is safe to walk on or replace furniture.
